Competition Rules

Individual Competitions:

Sole control of all competitions shall be vested in the Management Committee who shall have the power to deal with any matter not provided for in these rules.

Smoking and Vaping is not allowed on the green during play in any County Competitions.

To play in Outdoor Competitions entrants must be a member of an affiliated outdoor club which uses an outdoor bowling green. No entries will be accepted from a Club which does not possess an outdoor green. 

No male competitor may play for more than one club.

In Mixed Pairs, the male competitor shall be a member of a club affiliated to the Federation and the female competitor shall be a member of a club affiliated to the English Women’s Bowling Federation and from within the same county.

In Mixed Rinks, each male competitor shall be a member of a club affiliated to the Federation and each female competitor shall be a member of a club affiliated to the English Women’s Bowling Federation and from within the same county. 

Where two male players constitute the Mixed Rink, they must be from the same Federation Club; where two female players constitute The Mixed Rink, they must be members of the same English Women’s Bowling Federation club. 

A substitute may be used in all competitions except in Singles.

Where a substitute is permissible only that named Substitute may be used in any subsequent rounds of that competition.

Substitutes must be from the same club as the one they are replacing. The formation of the Rink must remain the same throughout the Competition. (i.e. If starting with 2 males and 1 female a substitute must be from the same Club and sex as the one they are replacing

The County is divided into 4 sections for individual and team competitions up to Quarter Finals. 

(North) Grimsby/Louth, Scunthorpe,               

(West) Lincoln, Sleaford, Grantham

(East) Skegness, Horncastle, Boston Town, 

(South) Spalding, Villages South of Boston.

Clubs may be moved from one section to another if required.

Section Secretaries must receive results no later than the closing date stated. 

A walkover in the commencing round of a competition constitutes taking part in the first game.  Players awarded a walkover must notify their Section Secretary of the situation and submit a score card with their names and the names of their opponents to proceed to the next round.  It is not sufficient to just enter one name; all names must be shown.

If in any round of a competition a player fails to appear at the time fixed for the start of play, a maximum waiting period of 15 minutes shall be allowed upon expiry of which a Singles or Pairs match shall be awarded to the opponents(s), but in a Rinks, game the play should then commence in accordance with the Laws of the Game.  If the missing player arrives after the game has started, he or she shall not be allowed to take part and neither may the game be recommenced.  For this interpretation trial ends, shall not be considered as part of the actual game and the missing player may start if only the trial ends have been played.

Two trial ends may be played in all competitions 

Any player playing on the same rink on the day of any such competition before play commences will be disqualified.

In the event of a match being unfinished owing to rain or other causes deemed sufficient by the Committee of the competition concerned, the match shall be replayed in its entirety unless at least 75% of the total number of ends to be played have been completed or 75% of the required number of shots in singles competitions have been obtained, in which case the score at the state of abandonment shall be taken as the final score.   

In the Challenge Bowl, if bad weather stops play the game shall count if an average of 15 ends have been played failing which the game shall be replayed (not resumed) on an agreed mutual date within the permitted limits.

All Quarter Finals are to be played by the date specified.  Results must be in the hands of the Section Secretary by 10.00 pm on the Sunday evening and must be notified by him to the organiser of the Quarter finals by 12.00 on the Monday. 

All individual Semi Finals and Finals shall be played on fixed dates.

Prizes shall be awarded in each competition at the Discretion of the Management Committee.

If a player has entered competitions from one club and then moves to another club in the same section, he can take his Competitions with him.  Where a competitor has entered a competition as a named player and the entry bearing his name has been included in the draw, he cannot afterwards play in place of another player in the same competition irrespective of whether he has played in his original group.

In all competitions, the team or competitors first drawn shall offer their opponents three dates, one of which may be a Sunday, for the games to be played within the time limit of the draw.  One of these dates, properly offered, must be accepted within 48 hours.  Failure to offer or accept shall disqualify the offending team or competitors. 

Each round will be deemed to commence at 6.30pm on the Tuesday following the closing date for the preceding round.  Dates must not be offered more than 48 hours in advance of the commencing day for the round i.e. 6.30pm Sunday, or later than 48 hours after the commencement of the round i.e. 6.30pm Thursday. 

Dates may not be offered more than 14 days in advance of the commencement of the competition.  The commencing date of the competition is 6.30pm on the Tuesday two weeks prior to the completion date for the round.

The closing date for each round shall be fixed by the Management Committee and shall be published in the Yearbook and web site.

For the time being the closing date will be the second Monday of each round. The Section Secretary to be responsible for the organisation of the final matches in his Section”

All Winners shall be responsible for the safe custody of the Association Trophies.  All trophies must be returned to the Competition Secretary at least 28 days before the succeeding years Finals.

In all competitions, the competitors first drawn shall have choice of green

All competitions shall start not earlier than 6.30pm and not later than 7.00pm except by agreement of the competitors.  Competitors not carrying out this rule are liable to be removed from the competition. 

All rounds up to and including the quarter finals shall be played on the green of the home drawn player/s or at the discretion of the Section Secretary

The scorecard signed by the losers and showing the names of all the players shall be posted or emailed by the winners to the Section Secretary within the permitted period. 

In the event of a player not turning up on an agreed date his opponent must return the scorecard complete with player’s names and a statement to that effect. 

If no scorecard is received competing players will be scratched

In all competitions, in the event of the final score being equal an extra end must be played at once to settle the winner or winners.  Players shall toss for the jack for the extra end.

In all singles competitions, the first drawn shall provide a marker.

Important Note – All winners of County competitions will be automatically entered as the County representative in both Indoor and outdoor National EBF Finals. The Players must be available to play for the duration of the tournament.  If you do not intend to take part in the National Finals or if you will not be available for the duration of the tournament (subject to normal competition substitute rules) you must declare this fact on Finals Day to the Competition Secretary. The County Secretary will then inform the National Body that we have no entrant in that Competition.  Once entered to play in the National Finals, if you then do not play or not available for the whole of the tournament (again subject to normal competition substitute rules) it will mean that your entry for the corresponding competition / s for the following year will not be accepted by the Lincolnshire Bowling Association.

Non-appearance at County Semi Finals / Finals (Individual or Teams) will result in no entries being accepted from offenders the following year in the corresponding Competition/s.

Warning regarding firing/driving of bowls – Health and Safety Requirement.

To safeguard all players on the green it is a requirement that any person intending to fire/drive their bowl, must inform their opponents or the marker at the opposite end of the rink and any players on both adjacent rinks of their intention

Team Competitions – Challenge Bowl, Ron Kitchen Trophy and Centenary Pairs Trophy

The Team Competitions will be played in sections up to the Section Quarter Final with the Section Winner qualifying for the County Semi Finals

Challenge Bowl (Club Team Championship) – 4 Rinks, 2 Bowls, 25 Ends

Male and Female who are affiliated to their County Association may take part. if the aggregate scores are level, an extra end shall be played on all rinks with all shots counting to achieve a result. The County winners will play in the Durham Centenary Trophy the following season.

The Ron Kitchen Memorial Trophy Club Team Knockout

1 x 2 Bowl Singles 21 Up, 1 x 4 Bowl Singles 21 Up, 2 x 2 Bowl Pairs of 21 Ends, 1 x 2 Bowl Rinks of 21 Ends. Trial ends are allowed and the home team will cast the first jack. The home team to provide the marker for the singles. One point to be awarded for each ‘module’ win. All modules must have a winner. If at the completion of a ‘module’ the scores are tied, an extra end shall be played to determine a winner. The first drawn team to offer dates in accordance with the existing competition rules with the complete match being played on the green of the first drawn team. If only four rinks are available, the singles shall be played consecutively using the same rink. The male players in all of the ‘modules’ shall be affiliated members of that club. Lady members of the club do not have to be affiliated to the LWBA.

Centenary Pairs Competition

3 x 2 Bowl Pairs 21 Ends. Trial ends are allowed and the home team will cast the first jack. One point to be awarded for each ‘module’ win. All modules must have a winner. (Match results will therefore be 3-0 or 2-1) If at the completion of a ‘module’ the scores are tied, an extra end shall be played to determine a winner. The first drawn team to offer dates in accordance with the existing competition rules with the complete match being played on the green of the first drawn team. The male players in all of the ‘modules’ shall be affiliated members of that club. Lady members of the club do not have to be affiliated to the LWBA.
